Co. Derry is set to welcome a new nightclub this weekend following a £1.5 million transformation and the creation of one hundred new jobs by the end of 2015.

Husband and wife team Henry and Teresa McGlone are behind the new nightclub venture Secrets situated on the same site of Dorman’s and The Opera which closed its doors in February of this year after a successful fifteen years. The couple has operated a business on the site for 28 years.

A complete refurbishment of the building by the couple to the tune of £1.5million will transform one of the town’s entertainment gems, giving it a new lease of life. The four-phase transformation of the venue starting with Secrets Nightclub has been in planning for eighteen months with work having commenced after Easter.

The venue has been designed by O’Donnell O’Neill Associates an award winning interior architecture practice based in Dublin and Belfast who are responsible for the fit out of some of Ireland’s most innovative entertainment venues. Along with the owners, the practice has taken inspiration from clubs in Dubai and the Abercomie and Fitch flagship store on New York’s Fifth Avenue to give Secrets a luxurious setting of wealth and charm.

Secrets will boast an opulent VIP lounge where guests can relax in booths with privacy, an outdoor balcony overlooking an adjacent beer garden and a state of the art cocktail bar with formulations created by award winning mixologist Nathan Evans who will also manage the new venue.

By the end of 2015, the business has anticipated to create one hundred jobs, initially starting with a team of sixty for the nightclub. The majority of these positions will be part-time consisting of bar and floor staff, hosts and security personnel.

Proprietors Henry and Teresa McGlone said, ‘The opening of Secrets Nightclub this week follows almost two years of behind the scenes work to breathe new life into one of Co. Derry’s most famed entertainment venues. We are very excited to have watched the transformation take place over the last six months. We have travelled extensively to bring the best elements of the world’s renowned bars and clubs to Magherafelt and we are confident Secrets Nightclub and the further phases will bring something new and innovative to the social offering in Northern Ireland’.

Commencement of phase two will start in early 2015 offering live music and food.
