New cookery school launches in Aughnacloy

Chef, Sean Owens, has joined forces with prominent Tyrone businesswoman, Rhonda Montgomery, Founder of Montgomery Food Consulting, to launch a new cookery venture in Aughnacloy – the Practical Cookery School – which opens for business this month.
The Practical Cookery School is based at Montgomery Food Consulting’s Headquarters, in its state-of-the-art premises in the heart of Aughnacloy, which were opened by Minister Foster last year, following a £250,000 investment.
Sean Owens has joined the company as Managing Director and will head up this division, which will benefit from Sean’s 30 years’ experience at the forefront of Northern Ireland cuisine and culinary skills.
Catering for all ages and abilities, the Practical Cookery School is appealing to a wide audience.
In a bid to attract food lovers from across the Province, there’s a selection of unique classes that are only available at the Practical Cookery School in Aughnacloy, including Wild Food Foraging, Artisan Baking and a fine dining experience, Come Dine with Me.
The niche classes will be balanced with some of the most popular and in demand culinary classes, such as Italian pizza & pasta, and fresh fish, which will appeal to a broader audience.
After years of having his own restaurant and hearing about diners’ cookery dilemmas, Sean had the vision to open a cookery school, that would be both practical yet at the forefront of new trends. Sean explains: “I joined Montgomery Food Consulting earlier this year as Managing Director and was amazed by the state-of-the-art premises that Rhonda had created, with a kitchen that’s second to none.
“Our innovation kitchen was the perfect place to bring to life the idea of a cookery school, and with Rhonda’s support and our combined vision, we’re excited to launch the Practical Cookery School in the heart of South Tyrone.
“We’ll be delivering new techniques and interactive classes for the local community, and in addition, attracting foodies from across Ulster to Aughnacloy town centre, to experience some of the most engaging and innovative culinary classes that are out there!”
The wide selection of classes on offer include Kidz Kookery and Preserves & Chutneys to Spanish Tapatizers and Canapes & Finger Food. The Practical Cookery School will also offer specialist classes in collaboration with local award-winning chefs and bakers such as Wee Buns & Cupcakes which is led by cake expert, Fiona Robinson.
Chief Executive of Montgomery Food Consulting, Rhonda Montgomery says: “As a company that is focused on raising the bar in food standards, we are delighted to open an innovative and practical cookery school that will cater for people all ages and all abilities, who can learn from the best.
“We have worked hard on creating classes that not only reflect the most popular food trends but that are also widely in demand. The essence is to create classes that are anything but boring – it’s cooking, theatre style, learning new techniques and having lots of fun!”
