Abbey Insurance has donated an amazing £120k to Northern Ireland Hospice, increasing support for young people and adults with life-limiting conditions.

Northern Ireland largest locally-owned insurance brokers reached this incredible figure after Directors and staff engaged in Hospice fund raising events, climaxing with a tremendous team effort in the Belfast City Marathon, which raised £2,500 alone.

A decade ago Abbey Insurance committed to a £1,000 monthly donation to Northern Ireland Hospice – a donation made up from staff and director contributions, and special events that included a Grand Canyon Trek, a sponsored abseil and family fun days.

Abbey Insurance Marketing Manager Michelle McCutcheon said: “We knew we were close to reaching a £100k landmark donation figure and were hoping that we could reach this incredible target this year, but we have surpassed our own expectations. This is a significant year for NI Hospice with the opening of a new £13 state-of-the-art dementia-friendly adult hospice in Belfast at the end of this year.

“Northern Ireland Hospice is close to our heart having supported it for over 20 years. Approximately 50% of our monthly donation to the Hospice comes from staff, with the remainder coming from directors, so that shows how important the charity is to everyone throughout our company.

Celebrating with Abbey Insurance, Ellen Hillen, Corporate Fundraising Manager for NI Hospice said:
“This is a great achievement by a Northern Ireland company demonstrating once again the valuable support Hospice receives from the local community in Northern Ireland.

“Northern Ireland Hospice is delighted to receive this level of continued support from Abbey. It enables Hospice to continue to plan and deliver much needed palliative care to more than 3,000 adults, children and young people, ensuring those who are living with a life-limiting illness receive the comfort, support and specialist nursing care they deserve, and that their families are supported.”
