Farry announces hospitality, catering and tourism sector job fair

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry has announced that his Department will host a Jobs Fair for the hospitality, catering and tourism sector on 15 March 2016.
The fair, which will take place in the Europa Hotel in Belfast, between 10am and 4pm, has been organised by the Department for Employment and Learning in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Hotels Federation and People 1st, the Sector Skills Council for hospitality, catering and tourism.
Announcing the event, Minister Farry said: “This presents an exciting opportunity for those interested in careers in the hospitality, catering and tourism sector to find out what is on offer. This growing sector is one of the largest employers in Northern Ireland and events such as this offer people the opportunity to gain employment in this area.
“The recently published NI Skills Barometer indicates that this will be a growth sector, with jobs in restaurants and hotels predicted to grow by 16% between now and 2025 under a high growth scenario. In recent years we have had unprecedented opportunities to put Northern Ireland on the world tourism map, and as 2016 is the Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink we have a further chance to build on this.
“That is why my Department is hosting this jobs fair, in partnership with the NI Hotels Federation and People 1st, to offer employers the opportunity to highlight real job opportunities in their sectors and continue to contribute to our future economic prosperity. I would encourage anyone, whether in work, unemployed or simply considering their education and training options, to explore the opportunities and services which will be available on the day.”
A wide range of vacancies within the hospitality, catering and tourism sector will be available as well as advice and guidance on a range of training and re-skilling opportunities. Over 30 employers including Hastings Hotels, Applegreen, Merchant Hotel, Titanic Belfast, Coca-Cola HBC, Galgorm Resort & Spa, Malmaison, Starbucks and James Street South will be recruiting at the event.
Minister Farry concluded: “My Department’s Careers Service, Employment Service and Disability Employment Service will also be present to provide information, advice and guidance on a range of training and employment schemes that can assist individuals progress into the labour market. I would urge anyone considering a career in this growing sector to add the date of Tuesday 15 March to their diary.”
