John-Ross is Young Leader of the Year

John-Ross Armstrong has been named as Northern Ireland’s Young Leader of the Year at the 4th Annual Young Leaders Conference sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills.
The Award recognises an outstanding business man or woman under the age of 40, who has shown exceptional leadership skills. This year’s judges were NI Mentalist David Meade and Lisa McLaughlin, Director of Herbert Smith Freehills in Belfast.
32 year old John-Ross is Managing Director of Greentown Environmental Limited based in Enniskillen.
In choosing John-Ross as the Young Leader of the Year, the judges recognised his enterprise when, faced with redundancy in 2010, he formed his own business, which employed 8 people in its first year and has grown year on year, largely through exporting its services to Dublin and beyond. Greentown Environmental now employs 23 people in Counties Fermanagh and Down.
The company won the Dublin City Council weed control tender for 1 year in 2014, followed by a four year contract in 2015 at an estimated value of €200,000 per annum. He also won a grounds maintenance contract with the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust.
In June 2014 John Ross was recognised as a Business Ambassador by InterTradeIreland for his cross-border success and also achieved the highly sought after Investors in People Award in April 2014. He implemented ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 in his first three years of trading.
The Young Leaders NI Conference was organised by a partnership of the Institute of Directors, Junior Chamber International Belfast, Northern Ireland Young Solicitors’ Association and the Chartered Accountants Ireland Ulster Society Young Professionals Group. Also sponsoring the event were Abacus and PwC.
