Kainos is digital employer of choice according to Sunday Times

Digital solutions company Kainos has once again been recognised for its investment in people and talent development, with another high ranking in this year’s Sunday Times ‘Best Companies To Work For’ listings.

The innovative technology company, which invests more than £1 million a year in training and talent development, rose to number 50 in this year’s list – up from 55 in 2013.

The prestigious annual rankings, which recognise the UK’s most engaged and supportive employers, are based exclusively on employee feedback. They rate companies on criteria including leadership, staff wellbeing, support for local communities, and commitment to individual personal growth. The ratings are compiled using a combination of staff surveys and direct feedback which measures how effectively an organisation engages with its employees. Kainos’s ranking is within the top 100 companies with 250-4,999 employees. (There are 6,500 companies in this bracket in the UK, according to Government statistics.)

Kainos has long prided itself on the calibre of its workforce, crediting this with the business’s phenomenal growth over recent years. Its talent is highly qualified: 98% of employees are university graduates with over 80% holding first-class technical honours degrees. Kainos actively supports staff in acquiring further skills throughout their careers: 95% of staff have been involved in training this year alone – representing an investment of more than 1,500 days and £1 million –  demonstrating the high level of engagement of Kainos with its employees.

Commenting on this year’s higher ranking, Brendan Mooney, CEO of Kainos, said, “We are thrilled that our investment in people has been recognised again in such a high-profile way. We take great pride in the calibre of our people and the job satisfaction they get from working with us. Being recognised like this by our own employees is hugely rewarding. It confirms that we are investing in the right ways and that Kainos continues to be a sought-after employer.”

In January, Kainos was awarded a hard-won 2-star accreditation for employee engagement by Best Companies, the workplace engagement specialists which operate the Sunday Times Best Companies rankings. The two-star accreditation is awarded for outstanding levels of engagement in an organisation.

Kainos’s commitment to talent development is well known. CTO Tom Gray is speaking at the acclaimed SxSW conference in Texas this month on the importance of fostering future generations of IT talent. His talk will highlight the work of the Kainos Digital Academy, a set of initiatives designed to encourage digital talent into the UK workforce. Under this umbrella, Kainos has run ‘hackathons’, coding camps, and innovative work placements for young people to get them excited about digital technology.
