Open Electric has announced plans to launch itself into Northern Ireland’s competitive electricity markets.

The Belfast-based company, which was established last year and has been granted a competitive electricity supply licence by the Utility Regulator, is one of Europe’s first “socially aware” power suppliers which promises to reward loyal customers with a share in any profit made as well as significant charitable donations.

From August, Open Electric will provide new customers with a clear and simple one-rate charge per unit, a choice of free billing options – including by post – unlike its rivals, plus a loyalty credit payment as part of a share in its success.

Set up by Northern Ireland electricity specialist and entrepreneur Marc Norris, formerly a technical analyst with SONI, which is responsible for the safe, secure, efficient and reliable operation of the high voltage electricity system in Northern Ireland.

Unlike other Northern Ireland power suppliers, Open Electric said there is no contract tie-in and prospective new customers can register their interest now to hear more about the benefits and when they can get connected.

Open Electric is targeting domestic electricity users who want a simple, openly transparent supplier which can provide value for money, reward customer loyalty, and which has the interests of the wider community at its core.

Open Electric managing director, Marc Norris, said:

“For far too long, energy customers in Northern Ireland have found themselves at the mercy of suppliers which have put their own interests first, bamboozling them with complex and often confusing pricing, while also making them pay more for choosing to receive a bill by post.

“At Open Electric, we want our customers to share in our success and we promise to reward them for their loyalty with a credit payback scheme. We also promise to financially support charity and community initiatives for the benefit of all and we invite our new customers to choose who should benefit most.

“Above all, we know that reliability, simplicity, and the delivery of quality customer care and value for money will be the pillars of our combined success and we invite prospective new customers to contact us now to hear more and register their interest.”

Licensed and regulated by the Utility Regulator for Northern Ireland and permitted to operate following stringent auditing and market testing, Open Electric will initially provide a competitive standard unit price with no contract lock-in.
