Premier Electrics complete major M&S fit-out
Mid-Ulster company Premier Electrics has completed the full electrical fit-out of a major new Marks & Spencer store in Yorkshire.
The Bellaghy-based electrical contractor was given a 15-week timeframe to deliver the electrical installation at the huge 150,000 sq ft store which forms part of the £90million Vangarde Retail Park that has just been created at Monks Cross on the outskirts of York.
M&S said the Monks Cross store is one of its most sustainable to date, with eco features such as a 60,000 litre rainwater harvesting tank, a green living wall and PV solar panel installation, which was a first for a new M&S outlet.
The million pound plus contract won by Premier Electrics included the installation of the solar panels as well as a general electrical fit-out in the store’s fashion, beauty, food and home departments plus a 170-seat café, in-store bakery and deli counter. The contract covered lighting, power, IT, overhead lighting and security elements.
Liam Martin, Premier’s Project Manager at M&S Monks Cross, said the electrical fit-out was a challenge for Premier’s 16-strong project team.
He explained: “The sheer size of the store and the timescales were the main challenges. Previous stores of this size completed by M&S had 25 or 30 week programmes, however Monks Cross was completed in just 15 weeks.”
Premier has worked on dozens of projects for M&S across the UK in recent years and further projects are in the pipeline
It is currently involved in several other major electrical fit-outs in Britain including two projects for Debenhams at Hereford and Cheshire, three for Primark at Cardiff, Canterbury and Bath as well as schemes at Lakeside Shopping Centre, in Essex and Waterside Shopping Centre in Lincoln.
The award-winning local contractor has completed electrical fit-outs for many of the top retail brands throughout the UK and Ireland as well as across Europe in Germany, Spain, Austria, Belgium and Holland.
