Northern Ireland’s leading executives will converge in Belfast on 22 May for the inaugural Leadership Day, organised by the Institute of Directors and The William J Clinton Leadership Institute, and supported by law firm Tughans and the Chief Executives’ Forum.

Delegates will hear from a range of international and local speakers with the opportunity to debate and challenge their own perceptions of leadership.

The day will begin with a presentation on the findings of a global PwC study investigating the challenges faced by CEOs around the world, followed by a panel discussion and workshops on how the issues raised such as innovation, strategy, transformation and governance, can be addressed in Northern Ireland.

Proceedings will close with the annual IoD Leadership Lecture from the founder of the US-based Ohio TechAngels Funds, John Huston, who will discuss how successes and failures in investments can be traced back to the quality of leadership.

Speaking ahead of the event, Chairman of the IoD NI, Paul Terrington, said: “The aim of the IoD is to support and develop local leaders by providing a rich portfolio of networking, mentoring and professional training which will prove indispensable to, not only their own business, but our wider economy.

“Leadership Day – and the opportunities to learn and discuss – is relevant to business leaders from organisations of every size from start-ups to corporates and public sector bodies. The event is open to all and I look forward to welcoming new faces to Riddell Hall.”

Anne Clydesdale, Director of the William J Clinton Leadership Institute at Riddel Hall, added: “The IoD and the Leadership Institute have much in common – to equip business leaders with the correct tools, direction, advice and knowledge required to lead a business to success.

“Leadership Day will become a key event in the Northern Ireland business diary and I strongly encourage representatives from across all sectors to attend – no matter what your industry, business success doesn’t come without strong leadership.”

Ian Coulter, Managing Partner of the law firm Tughans, said: “As a founding member of Riddel Hall, Tughans are delighted to sponsor the first collaboration between the William J Clinton Leadership Institute and the IoD.

“Strong leadership is the driving force of successful businesses in Northern Ireland. Being able to discuss these issues in a forum such as that offered by Leadership Day is a great opportunity to underline this and hopefully act as a catalyst for the businesses attending.”
