One of Northern Ireland’s foremost family-run retail businesses, Fruitfield Reids Farm Foodhall, has invested £5m in new premises and created 40 new posts in Richhill, between Portadown and Armagh. Part of the investment was funded by Danske Bank.

The family business was first opened in 1998 by the Reid family. In recent years the business outgrew its old premises and has now relocated to a bigger site. The new foodhall has been open since mid-December and is servicing approximately 15,000 customers per week. The company currently employs 70 staff.

Fruitfield Reids Farm Foodhall is owned by brother and sister, Gary Reid and Joanne Gourley, and their father, Eric Reid.

Gary Reid, said: “Our business has expanded into more than just a petrol station, with people wanting a complete shopping experience. The site now boasts an off-licence, butchers, home cooked meals, deli counter and restaurant. We also operate a 24 hour pay at the pump (cash and card) Texaco forecourt. We have a strong belief in supporting local producers so where possible our food is sourced locally. Our new premises is double the size of our old store, spanning 13,000 sq ft, with 150 enlarged spaces for ease of car parking.”

Speaking of Danske Bank’s support, Mr. Reid said: “Danske Bank has been very supportive – they have been involved with us at all stages of the investment over the last few years and have played an important role in our expansion.”

Tony McConnell, Senior Business Manager at Danske Bank, commented: “The retail sector employs 16.6% of all Northern Ireland employees and we expect it to grow at 4.6% in 2015 and 2.6% in 2016. Last year we approved over £200m in lending to the retail sector and expect to do more this year. This latest investment and job creation will help continue the steady growth within the sector.

“The growth of this family-run business has been underpinned by hard work, dedication and a commitment to meeting the needs of the local community. Danske Bank has been delighted to work closely with the Reid family on this major project which offers the consumer an excellent shopping experience in a modern purpose built complex. I have been impressed with the Reid family in their drive to bring quality products and a first class shopping experience to the local community.”
